Launceston College is a government school which enrols students studying years 11, 12 and 13. There are approximately 1250 students who attend classes on campus, and another 200 who study via Open Learning, an education system which allows students to undertake class work at times that suit them. The College also has an International Student Program with approximately 25 students from various countries. The campus employs over 160 staff members and offers a range of over 100 subjects.

The college promotes itself as a high quality, safe learning environment, and offers a wide variety of subjects to its students. The development of these images is in close relation to regulation of potential students. The college also offers the yearly opportunity to students to be involved in high-quality, professional stage productions, the most recent of which was Back To The 80s, in 2010. The 2011 production to be performed is Elton John's and Tim Rice's 'Aida'. Past productions include Chess, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cinderocka, Footloose, Grease, Hair, High School Musical and Disco Inferno. The school also offers overseas travel opportunities, such as an annual Nepal trip and, as of 2006, a trip to Japan for students studying Japanese.
